Renault Scénic Vision: New generation with hydrogen

Many manufacturers are currently relying on alternative drives, but only a few electrify with hydrogen. So far, only Toyota (Mirai) and Hyundai (Nexo) deliver fuel cell technology in cars in small numbers; At Mercedes there was recently a (now set) small series of the SUV GLC F-Cell, but exclusively for leasing.

mobility solution of the future

Hydrogen and fuel cell are considered a mobility solution of the future. Renault has apparently understood the signal and will install the technology in the next generation of the Scénic, which is due to go into series production in 2024 and to which the concept vehicle Scénic Vision now presented gives a first outlook. A brief review: The first generation of Scénic justified the minivans market segment over a quarter of a century ago.

Next generation: In 2024, the new Scénic is initially on the market purely electrically. It will probably be in 2030 for the hydrogen hybrid. Manufacturer

The hybrid technology in the study combines battery electric with hydrogen drive. The Scénic Vision comes from with a relatively small and light battery with only 40 kWh. Nothing more is needed because a 15 kW fuel cell serves as a range extender (technical term: Range extender). It should be operated exclusively with "green" hydrogen. Up to 800 kilometers long journeys should be possible without electrical charging and also realistic when the hydrogen tank network is only expanded, which is expected by 2030. The Renault managers address the approximately 750 kilometer route from Paris to Marseille as an example. The driver in Lyon could only make a five -minute tank stop at a hydrogen station, but does not have to reload.

reduced CO2 footprint

For Renault, the electrical hydrogen hybrid technology is a part of the desired, 100 % electrical offer-with the advantages of the shorter loading times and the larger range, combined with a low CO2 footprint. By 2030, CO2 reduction is planned by 30 percent in the extraction of raw materials and the production of parts, including the suppliers - of 15,000. Renault is building the Scénic in France.

Spacig: It will probably not look like this in the series scénic. Renault

New 2024 Renault Scenic Vision

The French also have a lot of ideas regarding sustainability. In the Scénic Vision, the proportion of recycled and recyclable materials amounts to 70 percent, partly up to 100 percent. The vehicle floor consists of industrial waste inside and even for the batteries there is a closed circuit. Sustainable lithium supply is secured by long-term contracts. Overall, the goal of zero CO2 is targeted in production and consumption.

electric motor with 160 kW/218 hp

And there is other things to say about the Scénic Vision: his 160 kW electric motor is known from the recently presented fully electric Mégane E-Tech Electric. The new platform of the new is designed to carry further, different vehicles in the future. Thanks to the new architecture, the electric motor can be accommodated in the rear, it drives the rear wheels. The hydrogen tank, which is two and a half kilos, is at the front. In length, the study comes to 4.49 meters, in width to 1.90 meters and in height to 1.59 meters. The wheelbase of 2.84 meters creates a lot of space in the interior. The entire vehicle should only weigh a low 1700 kilos. The tires are specified by 235/45 on 21-inch rims, special copies with closing flaps lower the air resistance.

There is also a question mark behind them: the opposite "Suicide Doors". Manufacturer

As for the optics: curved lines, elongated window surfaces dominate. The vehicle shape is surprisingly conventional. Of course, some things could change in the future. It is also questionable whether the opposite doors and the waiver of the central column, although very comfortably when getting on and off, find the way into series production. This probably also applies to the illuminated branded signet on the front. Unusual: Technical details such as cables and plugs under the windscreen are visible - this should make it easier to replace. No future dream: the door release works using facial recognition.
