How does the Corsair HS80 RGB Wireless work?

The installation on the PlayStation 5 proves to be a child s light: We insert the supplied USB transmitter on one of the front slots. A red light then flashes on the stick. Now turn on the headphones, connect automatically to the console. A beep indicates that the procedure was successful. At this point we would like to emphasize: The Corsair HS80 RGB Wireless has no Bluetooth functionality. You can only use the headphones with the help of the addressed USB wireless transmitter.

The transmission of the data worked absolutely easily in the test - even if we continued to move from the console or moved us when playing. Corsair is a maximum range of 18 meters. Of course we did not have such a big test area, but can say that there were no difficulties in a normal living room. Also, we did not feel any latency between the events on the screen and the sound output of the headphones.

High wearing comfort and solid processing

What noticed immediately: The HS80 RGB Wireless meets its upscale purchase price of € 149.99 in terms of processing. For example, Corsair uses aluminum at the suspension of the ear cups and gives the entire headset as much stability. The ear cups can also be rotated and adapted to their own head shape.

The remaining framing parts are made of matt black hard plastic. The HS80 RGB wireless is not a design miracle, but quite modern and simply to look at. Above all, however, the headphones are very convenient and variably adjustable. The cloth strap attached under the bracket fits her with the help of two climbing climbing caps hidden in the temple. As a result, you decide yourself how tight or loose the headset rests on your head. Excessively set, but quickly creates an unpleasant train on the ears and pressure on the head. Thanks to the Klett technique, however, you can adapt the headset almost infinitely to your head shape.

The thick padded earpieces ensure that the headphones do not press or otherwise disturb even in longer sessions. They attenuate ambient noise on top of that, they can concentrate fully on the gameplay. Very important: The HS80 RGB wireless is also suitable for spectacles, as the headphones are rather centrally located on the skull and exert little pressure on the ears. As a result, there is no pressure pain on spectacle brackets or the ears itself.

The microphone is located on the left side of the device. There is no classic on and off switch. Instead, you work up it up and down if you want to enable or disable it. Therefore, it is not possible to completely remove the microphone. Also a POPP protection is not included in this case.

Attractive sound experience

If you want to use the HS80 RGB Wireless only for the operation on the console, unfortunately missed some cool features. Features like the Via Icue System Software Customized RGB lighting and Dolby Atmos support remain reserved for PC players. At the PlayStation 5, however, you can use the Audio Output menu item Activate 3D audio and customize with audio profiles. This simulates the console 3D sound. This is not the same as Dolby Atmos, but proved to be a decent interim solution in the test.

In the practical test with titles like Ghost of Tsushima: Director s Cut , No Man s Sky and Deathloop , the HS80 RGB wireless convinced with the good sound, but without really pressing his stamp. In the depths we lacked a little of the abundance, in the heights the headphones were too inconspicuous. Thus, the overall result proves to be good, but not as outstanding.

However, that does not change the qualities of the device: the comfort is excellent and the battery life with around 20 hours also more than worth seeing. The microphone scores with the successful sound quality without cracking or noise. Even breathing noise or other immunity factors did not appear here.

As extremely useful and intuitive, the operation of the microphone proved. Although turning off through folding sounds awkward, but prevents Patzer s brand I thought I would have rotted the micro.

Conclusion: strong part

All in all, the Corsair HS80 RGB wireless convinces in the test and is worthwhile for players who not only go to the console, but also on the PC. The more advanced setting options and Dolby Atmos get the last out of the headphones.

PlayStation fans, on the other hand, get a very comfortable headphone with good sound quality for 149.99 euros and very successful micro-functionality. The Corsair HS80 RGB wireless thus proves to be a strong all-rounder and is absolutely recommended for friends of prolonged sessions.
