The latest Steam update of Final Fantasy 9 deletes the game

New ZONE, Melee BUFFS & More Patch 5.5 FFXIV News!

Not the ideal way to reduce the file size of a game.

The way Square Enix deals with PC ports and publications of its games has always been the subject of many criticisms, but the latest update for which they were published final Fantasy 9 on Steam is probably one of the larger and more confusing mistakes that they have made in this area for some time.

As can be seen on Resetera, the latest update removes a lot of files from the game. How many? Well, all of them. Everything else than the launcher of the game is deleted as soon as you download the update, and the Launcher is of course not good as nothing is to start. The change log for this latest update in STEAMDB contains an extensive list of all files removed by this update.

When you try to download the game again, the Steam installer informs you that you need 0 MB of free space on your PC. Of course you can not play the game or so, but hey - at least the update reduces the file size of the game drastically, right?
